Matthew R. A. Heiman is Vice President, Corporate Secretary & Associate General Counsel at Johnson Controls. Mr. Heiman joined Johnson Controls in 2016 as a result of the merger with Tyco International. Mr. Heiman is responsible for support of the board of directors, securities, public finance, corporate governance, and legal entity management. Mr. Heiman also leads the company’s enterprise risk management process, the integration for the law department following the merger, and the aviation function. From 2013 to 2016, Mr. Heiman was Tyco’s Vice President, Chief Compliance & Audit Officer. In this role, Mr. Heiman led the management of the Compliance function as part of the Law Department and the Internal Audit function as part of the Finance Department. He was a direct report to the Audit Committee of Tyco’s Board of Directors. From 2010 to 2013, Mr. Heiman was based in Canton Schaffhausen, Switzerland. He led the legal team that supported Tyco’s Continental Europe Fire & Security business. During this period, Mr. Heiman also was the Senior Litigation Counsel for EMEA. From 2007 to 2010, Mr. Heiman was Senior Litigation Counsel for Tyco in Princeton, New Jersey where his work focused on securities class action litigation. Before Tyco, Mr. Heiman was a lawyer with the National Security Division at the U.S Department of Justice. He was a legal advisor to the Coalition Provisional Authority in Baghdad, Iraq and practiced as a trial lawyer with the law firm of McGuireWoods. Mr. Heiman has a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Juris Doctorate degree from Indiana University. He is a member of the International Institute for Strategic Studies.
